Find My App - This incredible app will help you locate your lost Apple devices with the help of iCloud data, even when your device is online or offline.

Along with Apple Devices, you can also add and track people who are on iCloud and track items that support the Find My feature if you want to track your Kids, Pets, or any other members of your family who don’t use Apple devices or have iCloud with the help of AirTag. You can also use AirTag to track any items that don’t support Find My. This guide will help you understand how to add or track Devices, Items, and people using the Find My app. 

 

How to Add “Devices & Items” to your Find My?

Find My is all about helping you locate your missing Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, AirPods, devices in your Family Sharing group, AirTag) and third-party products that support the Find My network (like Beats products). It's a lifesaver when you're in a state of panic searching for that Apple Watch that mysteriously disappeared from your wrist or iPhone you left somewhere and forgot about it. 

The best thing that makes it more special is when you can’t find your nearby Apple device, AirTag or Find My network accessory, you can play a sound to pinpoint its location. You can also get the distance and direction with Precision Finding.

Remember to enable notifications for the Find My app in your iPhone's settings. You can find this in "notification settings on iPhone."

 

Go to FindMy > Devices tab (Select on the device) > Tap on play sound

 

Voila! You can now play a sound to find your device, you can even play sound to find your missing Airpods too.

 

How to add Devices in Find My app?

When you use the same Apple ID on all your Apple devices, they're usually added to Find My automatically. But if your device isn't added automatically, you can follow these steps to ensure all your Apple devices are included in Find My.

 

  1. Open the "Find My" app on your iPhone, MacBook, iPad, or Apple Watch.

  2. Select the "Devices" tab at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Click on the "+" icon for a list of menu (Share My Location, Add  MagSafe Accessory, Add AirTag, &  Add Other Item)

  4. Now click on "Add Other Items" in the menu.

  5. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to add your device or item to Find My

“Never Lose Your Devices Again”

You can use Find My to help you find your lost devices or know if you've left them in any unfamiliar place. All you need to do is simply turn on "Notify When Left Behind" on your iPhone, Apple Watch, or iPad.

All you need to do is Click on the Devices tab> Tap on the device and Click on notify when left behind> Enable “Notify when left behind.” You can also add locations where you don't need to be notified.

Voila! You can now get notified when you leave your device behind and you can “Never Lose Your Devices Again.”

Find Your AirPods Too:

You can also add AirPods to your device list and find it on Maps when you lose them. When you add your AirPods to your Find My device and play a sound when you lose any of your (right or left) AirPods, you can find them easily.

Here are a few steps that can guide on how you can find your lost Device using Find My, follow these steps and locate  your lost Apple Devices.

  1. Choose the Devices tab in the Find My App on your Apple Device 

  2. Select your missing device. If your device is online, you can see its location on a map. If it's nearby, you can play a sound to help you find it 

  3. If you can't locate your device, you can activate and mark it as lost and Click on “Continue” and follow the on screen instructions.

  4. This will remotely lock your device with a passcode to keep your information secure.

After clicking "Continue" upon activating the Mark as lost feature, in Find My you will be asked to provide a phone number that will appear on the lock screen of your device. This phone number serves as a means for anyone who finds your device to get in touch with you. 

Moreover you will have the option to input a customized message that will also be displayed on the lock screen. This message can include instructions on how to return the device to you. Furthermore you can opt to receive email updates regarding the status of your device. Once you have provided this information simply tap "Enable". Your device will be marked as lost.

Note: In order to locate your device using Find My App, you must enable  Find My using your Apple device settings before it's lost. If Find My isn't turned on for your devices before you lose it, it won't appear in Find My or at iCloud.com/find  or you can't put it in Lost Mode and you should change your Apple ID password right away to protect your personal information. In case you are  yet to turn on Find My for your device, then head back to your device’s settings and enable Find My.


Adding Items in Find My app

Say goodbye to misplacing your items be it keys, lunch box, sipper, hand bag, etc. with the help of Find My and Apple AirTag! When you add your items to your Apple’s AirTag and Find My you can locate them quickly.

 

Here is the step by step guide on how to add items to your Find My app 

  1. Open the "Find My" app on your iPhone or iPad.

  2. Select the "Items" tab at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Click on the "Add Item" button.

  4. Now, simply follow the on-screen instructions to name your item and register it to your Apple ID.

  5. Hold your AirTag near your iPhone or iPad, then tap "Connect"

  6. Tap the "+" icon and select "Add Other Item".

  7. Simply tap "Connect", enter a name, and pick an emoji, then tap "Continue".

  8. Click "Continue" again to register the item, then click "Done".

You can also share your own location with friends and family through the Find My app. This way, they'll know where you are, and you can make it simple for them to find you when necessary.

Location-Based Alerts

Setting up location-based alerts is another handy feature. You'll receive notifications when your loved ones arrive or leave specific places. It's a great way to stay updated on where they are without having to constantly check in.

 

Here is the step by step guide on how to enable location based alerts in Find My:

  • Open the Find My app on your iPhone or iPad. It's the one with the green icon that looks like a radar.

  • At the bottom of the screen,  select the "People" tab.

  • Now, select the person for whom you want to set up location-based alerts.

  • Under "Notifications" tap on "Notify Me" and choose whether you want to be notified when the person arrives at a place or when they leave a place.

  • Now choose a location. You can pick one of the locations from your saved location list or tap "New Location" to create a new one.

 

Note: The size of the location radius matters. If you choose a larger radius, you'll get notified when the person is close to the place, not just when they're right there.

  • Also make sure you have enabled notifications for your Find My app. This is crucial for getting alerts when the person's location changes.
